I went out to my local kitchen appliance outlet to find a new microwave, let go within our cooking area the old one - combusted from an audacious experiment carried out by a 7 year old child. Browsing the flyers and searching over the internet, one of the manufacturers at the top of my mind was a Jenn Air microwave.
Realistic prices, but the design attracted me as both modern and classic. And the Jenn Air microwave convection oven came in a colour I'd personally never seen previously - a welcoming and trendy oiled bronze finish. My boy, who came with me on this expedition, approved for the bronze coloring, but liked the versions having a Liquid crystal display more - a few of the Jenn Air microwave ovens include a small touch-screen display rather than the normal buttons.
The now demolished microwave's buttons turned out to be hard for small fingers to press, and he tested the touch screen and determined this easier. I tried this personally, and found it fairly nice, but I waffled over whether or not easier admittance by the Microwave Doom Boy might be a very good point. The salesperson saw my unease, and explained I should use the Control Lockout function - designed to minimize the risk of just such problems as had overtaken the last appliance.
Another good factor - at the least in my closet - is the drop-down door (in preference to the more aged side open style) which allows me the biggest sum of room to put food within, and likewise catches any unintentional splatters any time I'm taking dishes in or out. With kids walking inside and outside of the kitchen at dinner time, having that additional safety is a good point!
Having looked at them in the store and doing price comparisons and various other brand names, I chose the 30" Over-The-Range Microwave Oven with convection feature. The room inside is spacious enough for me to cook our conventional Seasonal dinner, and there's a great internal fan that captures smoke and steam - a function the last microwave lacked, which usually ended in dampness build-up and smells.
